Delta Roboter
CIPOSA-CSEM Partnership
PocketDelta - Miniature robot for microassembly
CSEM has developed a new ultra-compact robot based on parallel kinematics. The robot has been designed to solve increasingly demanding tasks in the field of microassembly, where high speed and high precision is required. Precision and speed are key factors in microassembly, and they can be improved considerably by miniaturizing the assembly equipment. Furthermore a miniature robot needs less ground surface, which leads to cost reduction, especially for production in clean rooms. The PocketDelta is the smallest high-speed microassembly robot in the world.
Technology
Prerequisites for high speed and high precision are a light but stiff mechanical structure. The robot has been realized using parallel kinematics. Stiff and lightweight materials build up the moving parts of the robot. A high level of integration reduces the size of the whole system. The mechanics, motion drives, control electronics and computing are all integrated into one compact unit. This innovative configuration simplifies its use and increases the flexibility of the robot. It can be used as a "standalone module" performing many different pre-programmed assembly tasks or in a complex manufacturing line where several robots can be synchronized by a master station.
